About the Artist

• J. E. Seames was born one morning on the 15th day of February in a year midway through the 1980s, according to the Gregorian calendar. She is a she, and was born in Saudi Arabia to an American chemical engineer and his lovely wife, and they all trekked back across the ocean when the Persian Gulf War came into swing. The wee JoJo enjoyed writing, drawing, giggling at artistic nudes in museum catalogs, and reading the dictionary. Her favorite letter was K.

  She had an awkward adolescence that involved being placed into waste receptacles and lockers, but she got over it by starting to draw comics.

• In 2003 she realized that she needed to become a professional illustrator, and in 2004 she began attending the University of Arizona's College of Fine Arts, in Tucson.

  In 2007, JoJo self-published a comic magazine, Gutter Space, with a small group of collaborators. In 2008, her first solo graphic novel, Dis: Life is Hell, was published by Bohemian Trash Studios, debuting a month before her college graduation, where she officially received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications: Illustration.

• She currently resides in Grand Forks, North Dakota, continuing work as a freelance illustrator and webcomicksmithe, as well as a mild-mannered graphic designer for a respectable public university.
• JoJo is a protestant Christian. She doesn't bite.
• She's a mite obsessive over Greek mythology, Shakespeare, comic books, and history.
• Her favorite colors are cadmium red and royal purple.
• Her favorite foods are squid, fancy cheeses, cabbage, pomegranate, portobello mushrooms, bell pepper, butternut squash, lamb, and probably anything made out of potatoes.
• Her favorite music-makers are Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Twisted Sister, Billy Idol, Demon Hunter, Third Eye Blind, the Smashing Pumpkins, Alice Cooper, Project 86, Toad the Wet Sprocket, the Killers, and Underoath.
• Her favorite movies are Casablanca, Akira, Ponyo, Star Wars, Fargo, Nosferatu, Kamikaze Girls, The Maltese Falcon, Oldboy, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, American Psycho, and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
• Her favorite United States president is Theodore Roosevelt.
• Her favorite ancient Greek god may be speculated upon.
• She doesn't like root beer or the font "Papyrus".
